Pet food Drive
October 17, 2010 at 1:06 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 CommentYappers,
This month, September/ October our community project of the month is the pet food drive. We have asked that all of our YAP representatives ask their school if they can put a donation box up, and trying to fill it up with as much dry/ wet food for dogs/ cats. As we have heard in the news that there have been large forest fires that have been catastrophic to many families. Many houses were damaged, burnt down, and destroyed leaving those families with nothing to go home to, and no where for their adored pets to stay either. All and any donations will be greatly accepted and appreciated. The proceeds will be given to the Longmont Humane Society. The donations that are received will be used to replenish the Longmont Humane Society’s pet food supply.
I will be contacting the Westminster Window asking if they would be capable and willing to take a photo-op and/ or an article.
The deadline for the donations is October 18th, 2010 by 10 am at City Hall. We are hoping for at least four members to be released from school and meet at City Hall at 10 am to load all the donated food into the vehicle. We will be done by approximately 12:30-1 pm so that you all may return to school.
Let any of the YAP officers or advisors know asap if you will be able to attend the mini “field trip”.
Thank you for your time and convenience,
PIO officer, Bobbi Strange
Please notify me if there are any questions or concerns about the information posted and I will gladly answer them.
Sidewalk Art
April 19, 2010 at 11:47 pm | Posted in Activities | 2 CommentsYappers,
The new park across the street from City hall is being completed and for its opening day they were hoping to get some people to do sidewalk art at the park. Below are some details. If you can attend, please email me back.

I’m looking for some advise and help from our Youth Advisory Panel. I am hoping to get connected to some high school artists or a high school’s art program/teacher for a Sidewalk Chalk project for the dedication of the the Westminster Center Park, which is the new park across the street from City Hall.
Here’s some details about the event:
Westminster City Council
invites you to join them as they
dedicate the new
Westminster Center Park
4801 W. 92nd Avenue
Friday May 21, 2010, 5:30 pm
A ceremonial dedication, entertainment and children’s activities will be included.
What I’m hoping to do is have the artists do their work the day of the event so that it is ready at 5:30 pm, cordon off a section of the sidewak for Sidewalk Art focused on the Peter Pan, Neverland theme, as that is the design them of the park itself. I would be happy to provide the chalk and we could acknowledge the artists and school’s represented in the Mayor’s Comments. Since this event is right at graduation time, this would probably only appeal to current students who are not Seniors.
This could even be a class field trip on a Friday afternoon!
If any YAP member would be willing to pass my request on to their artist friends or art teacher at their school, I’d appreciate it. Anyone interested in participating should contact me. I would be glad to meet with instructors at your school if that is preferable.

Pride Day May 8, 2010
April 6, 2010 at 11:24 pm | Posted in Activities, Uncategorized | 3 CommentsYappers!
Our next community service project is going to be Westminster Pride Day. This will take place on Saturday May 8, 2010. The event will be from 9:45 – 1:15. The responsibilities that we usually have at Pride Day are making sure that the volunteers receive food, work the raffle ticket stand, and this year we’re going to make sure that the volunteers are properly recycling their trash.
If you have any questions please leave a comment.
Thanks!

Children’s Hospital
March 8, 2010 at 1:11 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 4 CommentsHey Yappers!
On March 13 we will be going to the Children’s Hospital to have read and do crafts with some of the patients there. The event starts at 1:30. We will be meeting at City Hall at 12:45 for rides.
For this event we would like for everyone to buy Dr. Seuss stuffed animals from Khol’s (proceeds serve as a donation to the Children’s hospital) and to bring the stuffed animal to the event. Also we would like for everyone to try to collect some “get well soon” cards from your school and friends to hand out to patients at the hospital.
Katie stated that this is the list of things we cannot bring to Children’s Hospital:
- You can’t wear blue jeans
- Don’t bring food
- If you are sick you cannot come!
Other than that, see you on March 13!

Feed the Homeless Feb 6, 2010
February 2, 2010 at 2:43 am | Posted in Activities | 2 CommentsFor this month’s feed the homeless event, we will be meeting at the Lutheran Church of Hope in Broomfield. If you need a ride, meet at the rec center by the flag poles (look for the big white van).
If you are driving yourself, the church is near Wadsworth Blvd & 10th. There are two churches near this area, it is the second church.
Hope to see as many people there as possible.
